Hiking & Vallée de Villé

Alsace

Maisonsgoutte is located in Vallée de Villé. A gorgeous valley in the center of Alsace with 18 small villages. We love that it is so quiet around our place, while we are still in the heart of a lively area with tons of activities.

Hiking & Vallée de Villé

The valley has an extended network of marked trails, you can start straight from the house. They go from a stroll of an hour up to a roundtrip of a day. Off course we tried many of them and can provide maps and suggestions. We are also close to well-known hiking spots such as Le Champ du Feu and Le Climont.

Maisonsgoutte – Breitenbach

(roundtrip) 6 km

Maisonsgoutte – Villé

(roundtrip) 10 km

For more roundtrips, including QR-code to download the route on your device, go to our hiking page.

Vallée de Villé is the most beautiful valley of Alsace, as they say here, in the valley. We can only agree with that! Besides numerous hikes you can also visit:

Villé

Villé can be reached in a pleasant 45 minutes’ walk from Maisonsgoutte. Here you can drink a coffee with excellent pastry, go to the organic shop, visit the farmers market, buy a book, rent a (electric) mountain bike or join one of the activities organized by the tourist office.

Steige – Distillerie Nusbaumer

Founded in 1947, the Nusbaumer distillery is located in the nearby village of Steige. Different distillation of fruit and plant liqueurs and spirits. Guided tour by reservation.

Saint Pierre Bois – Ferme des Hutten

Local bio farm, Ferme des Hutten, organizes regularly events and is open on Saturday morning for direct sales.

Neuve-Eglise – Festival Décibulles

A 3-days rock festival in the valley! Festival Décibulles can’t be heard from our place so you will have to go if you want to enjoy the music. Busses run from the festival area between Maisonsgoutte.

Alsace Wine Route – la petite édition

The Alsace Wine Route runs across Alsace, north to south. The route is picturesque with small towns along the way and many opportunities to taste some local wine. We created a day trip of 50 km, a lovely way to do a part of the famous wine route and as a bonus we added some historic landmarks.

You start from Maisonsgoutte and head over to the nearby village of Albé (B). Enjoy the views over this charming village and wine fields. You continue to Eglise Saint Gilles (C) which sits on the top of a hill overlooking the valley.

After the church, the route will take you to the small village of Reichsfeld (D). From Reichsfeld it is not far to Dambach-la-ville (F). A marked walking trail starts from the carpark and will take you through the vineyards.

After Dambach-la-ville you drive to Scherwiller (G). There is the option to park at parking Hühnelmühle and walk in 40 minutes to Château de l’Ortenbourg.

After this you go back to Maisonsgoutte and, if you still up for it, order a nice glass of wine and sit on our terrace or in the salon!

We can recommand these winemakers on the route:

Haut Koenigsbourg

A symbol of Alsatian heritage, this renovated and rebuilt medieval castle. Haut Koenigsbourg is worth a visit!

Le Hohwald waterfall

You can go directly from Maisonsgoutte by foot on a day hike or you take the car up the mountain and park in Le Hohwald. The tourist office created a 6km roundtrip to the waterfall from the village, there is also a carpark close to the waterfall.

Sélestat

The city closest to our chambres d’hôtes has a small city center with some nice streets, historical houses, and churches. The main attraction is the Bibliothèque Humaniste with a collection of ancient books including the work of Erasmus. We really enjoyed this small museum and its collection.

There are a couple of good places to have lunch, we frequently visit Resto Bio L’Acoustic (organic and vegetarian) and L’Amandier (vegan).

Mont Sainte Odile

The convent of Mont Sainte Odile is worth a visit, if only for the view of Alsace.

Alsace

Strasbourg

The European Capital Strasbourg is enjoyable by foot and offers many things to visit. The cathedral, Petite France, the modern art museum, and the canals to name a few. Julien lived most of his adult life in this city and can give you recommendations.

Colmar

Picturesque half-timbered houses, canals, cobblestone lanes and famous for its Christmas markets in December.  Museum Unterlinden is enjoyable to visit. There are many restaurants to choose from, we loved our lunch at Luser Stub (Wednesday and Friday from 12:00 to 14:00. no website, reservation only by telephone).

Kaysersberg, Riquewihr, Equisheim, Ribeauvillé

Famous little towns and frequently visited by many tourists in summer and around the Christmas period. They all breathe the Alsatian traditions with colorful half-timbered houses in beautiful surroundings on the wine route.
